Reducing Retinal Blindness Worldwide

International Fellowships

RRF funds two programs of international fellowships.

Helmerich International Fellowships

These two, 12-month fellowships provide advanced subspecialty training at leading institutions for young ophthalmologists from developing countries. The fellows commit to return to a position at a teaching institution or public service hospital in their home country following completion of the fellowship.

This program was established  by RRF in honor of Walter H. Helmerich, III.

Gillingham Fellowships

Two six-month fellowships of $10,000 each are awarded each year to Latin American ophthalmologists for training at leading institutions in the United States or Canada. This program is administered for RRF by the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO), and was made possible by a gift from W. J. Gillingham.

In addition to the international fellowships, RRF also funds other programs of education and career advancement.
